Books, Books, Books


A couple of weeks ago I read Lock and Key By Sarah Dessen and i decided to review it. I have heard a lot about Sarah Dessen in terms of her books many people like them so I thought I would give this one a shot. I hate to say it but I was slightly disappointed it was a good book don't get me wrong but what was written in over 420 pages could have been written in 200 or less. A lot of it was dragged out and at times it took forever for anything even remotely climactic to happen.

In essence this book is about a teenage girl named Ruby who was living in a house with her alcoholic and drug addict mom who one day just disappeared and never came back. Ruby was very self sufficient though and she thought she could take care of herself. Then her electricity and water stopped because she hadn't been able to pay the bills. Ruby still believed she was doing fine by herself but one day her nosy land lords came over to check in and saw piled up dishes, clothes hung everywhere, and the house smelled so they called child services. Long story short she starts to live with her lawyer sister Cora and husband Jaime who created and owns a company called UMe which is essentially Facebook. She is not happy because she thinks she could take care of herself so her mentality is I turn 18 in a few months and then can move out and take care of myself.

Moving along Ruby rebels and gets drunk with her old school friends and then is later saved by her neighbor Nate who she met when she tried running away before. Nate's dad owns a company which I forgot the name but they basically do peoples chores for them like walk the dog, pick up dry cleaning and things like that. It is only Nate and his dad who run the business so his dad is kind of a hard ass and abuses him at times.

After Ruby comes home drunk Jaime is upset with her because him and Cora are really giving her everything. Cora compares Ruby's behavior to how their mom used to act. After hearing this Ruby becomes more thankful and shapes up. She gets a job at the mall and her and Nate start seeing each other. Ruby can hear and sometimes tell that Nate is being abused but he always brushes her off and never tries to help himself.

Ruby resents Cora for leaving her with their mom, but she explains that she always tried finding her but their mom kept moving them and changing the phone number so she could never get in contact. Cora tried inviting Ruby to her wedding but she gave their mom the invitation and promised she would let Ruby decide if she wanted to go but she never did. It was concluded that Ruby's mom left because she did not want to be alone once Ruby left for college (mom of the year I know).

I don't want to explain the whole book just in case any of you would like to read it. But essentially Ruby finds out her mom is in rehab, Nate moves to Arizona, and Ruby gets accepted to college. A lot of semi interesting things happen in between so if you are patient I recommend reading this book!

I Love Beaches

My family is obsessed with the beach everyone loves it so almost every weekend during the summer we go. This year it has been kind of hard for all of us to have time to go together so we have gone only a few times this year unfortunately.

We go to Corona Del Mar which is in Newport Beach it is out favorite beach because it is very diverse and fun. Me, my sister, mom, and cousin all went together. We got their around 11 A.M. and usually in the morning most beaches are overcast as in the clouds are really intense ,the above picture doesn't even have a filter so it was that beautiful. The water is also super cold so I took a nap during this time, no surprise there I love to sleep on the beach it is SO calming to fall asleep to the sound of waves.


After I woke up from my beauty sleep we went walking to Albertsons which we usually do to get some food or a drink and right by there is this pizzeria called Gina's Pizza and it is ranked the best pizza in Orange County so we thought we would try it. We had already brought our sandwiches so we just got them to share. My cousin go plain cheese and I got the Maui Mama which is basically Hawaiian Pizza it had Canadian Bacon which I'm pretty sure is just ham and crispy bacon which was so delicious. I think the best part of the pizza was the crust it was so flaky and awesome. The pizza was really good and different but it wasn't that spectacular to be the best pizza in Orange County.


This is the view from the top when we went walking. It was really cold yesterday though more than usual the sun didn't come out till about 2 o'clock we went in the water but 15 minutes later came out because it was just so cold to the point where our bones hurt.

















We left around 4:30 and went to this candy store by the beach called B Candy and it is the cutest little shop and it is just so unique and cool. All of us got ice cream I decided to get Coffee Chip which is on the bottom and Mango gelato on the top. I am obsessed with gelato it is so refreshing and crisp I loved the mango.



This place is super cool and different they have awesome cupcake flavors like Cinnamon Toast crunch and Cookie Butter. Also ice cream flavors like frosted flakes and sea salt chocolate potato chip it is honestly such a cool place. The ice cream has color changing spoons when put in the ice cream they change into the blue greenish color above and once you lick it, it goes back to yellow like the picture to the right!



This post is about my day yesterday but I had to share the highlight of my day today which was getting Season 1 of Gossip Girl in the mail. I think it was last Thursday I won a bid war for this off of EBay. I am trying to get all six seasons. Yes, I am that in love with GG that I go to bidding wars for it and want to own every single season. The obsession is too real friends.

What I ate this weekend doesn't really go with my healthy lifestyle but honestly you really just have to pick your battles. During the week I am so strict on myself unless I go out with friends or something. But for the most part I eat really healthy during the week and kind of let myself go on the weekends. I am trying to change that though because I felt so guilty about what I ate because I have been working so hard but changes happen gradually so I really just have to keep that in mind. I had a really intense workout this morning so I feel a little better about that.

Things are getting real

I've been blogging for over a month now and I usually post lifestyle posts and I feel like you guys don't know me to well. So I thought I would go ahead and do the 25 questions tag so we can all become closer and get to know each other, alright here we go

25 questions:
1. Do you have any pets?
No, nobody in my family is really into animals, I am really afraid of dogs and I get such anxiety whenever I see one that isn't on a leash. I always think their going to attack me and it is a whole situation for me.
2. Name three things that are physically close to you.
Phone, mouse pad, and my IPod.
3. What's the weather like right now?
It is so hot in California I am melting on a regular basis. These past few days have been 100 degrees and up.
4. Do you drive? If so have you crashed?
Yes I drive I have had my license for over a year. I have never crashed thank God *knocks on wood
5. What time do you wake up in the morning?
Usually early around 7:30/8:00, I can never sleep in that long I usually go to bed around 11 and still wake up that early. My body just always wakes me up and once I'm awake I can't fall back asleep. Sometimes I'll even go to bed around 1 or 2 and wake up at 7 or 8 it is really crazy.
6. When was the last time you showered?
This morning!
7. What was the last movie you saw?
I saw sex tape with my friend yesterday and it was actually really funny and good.
8. What does your last text message say?
"I hated registration for high school so awkward"
9. What's your ring tone?
The one that comes with the IPhone.
10. Have you ever been to a different country?
No unfortunately, I would love to travel but my family doesn't travel to much. But in the future I plan to travel a ton I want to see the world.

I am not really into sashimi but I do like the rolls that are cooked any kind I love all of them.
12. Where do you buy your groceries?
Usually Von's, Arab Markets, or The Farmers Market.
13. Have you ever taken medication to help you fall asleep faster?
Yes when I am sick!
14. How many siblings do you have?
Just one sister who is three years older than me.
15. Do you have a desktop computer or a laptop?
Toshiba laptop
16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
18, I will legally be an adult so scary I can't even.
17. Do you wear contacts or glasses?
If I have somewhere nice to go to and I am wearing makeup then contacts but if I am in a rush or at home glasses.
18. Do you color your hair?
Nope my mom never let me because she said it will ruin your hair faster according to her.
19. Tell me something you are planning to do today.
I am planning to go wash my hair in a little while ( anti-climactic I know)
20. When was the last time you cried?
I can't remember exactly but probably a few weeks ago when I was watching Gossip Girl.
21. What is your perfect pizza topping?
Ham and Pineapple are my absolute favorite pizza.
22. Which do you prefer hamburgers or cheese burgers?
I feel like this is such an American question but I like bacon cheese burgers.
23. Have you ever had an all nighter?
Believe it or not I haven't I've been pretty close at like 4 in the morning but I value sleep a lot because I know how important it is so I try to get as much as possible. But I am going to college so I assume that will change.
24. What is your eye color?
Hazel, depending on the light they change between brown and green.
25. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke?
Another American question, I don't drink soda to often and if I do it is Sprite so I cannot answer this question. But I probably could if I tried.

My Favorite Eye Look!

During school I always try looking nice with as minimal effort as possible. But I actually like to wear eye shadow so I came up with this super pretty eye look that I wore almost every day for school.
 
 
First I start off with priming my eyes with my favorite Elf eyelid primer in sheer. I have Urban Decays primer potion as well but I honestly prefer this one, I think it covers all my eye veins better.
 
 
Next for a base I use Maybelline's color tattoo in Barely Branded which is the prettiest champagne color. I just use my fingers to spread it all over my eyelid, it is a cream base so I just find it easier to use my fingers so I can spread it how I like it. I really recommend using any type of base for your eye look because it will make whatever eye shadow you have on really stand out and pop.
 
 
Then I took my current favorite eye shadow which is Essences party all night, I talked about this shadow in depth in my current favorites post so go check that out if you haven't already! It's a nice sparkly gray topeish color I love it. I took a flat shader brush and spread it all over my eyelid on top of the base we put on before.
 
 
To smoke it up a little bit I took Naked and Buck which are matte brown shades from the Naked palette and blended it on the outer half of my lid. I used a MAC 217 brush which is my favorite blending brush for eye shadow looks. If you want it to be more dark and intense then just keep adding Buck until it's as dark as you would like it.
 
 
Lastly I just put on Ultas kohl eyeliner in bronze on my water line and in the inner corner to brighten it up the look I used a NYX jumbo eye pencil in Yogurt.
Here's the completed eye look it honestly takes me no more then 10 minutes usually less to do. I love it ! Let me know if any of you try this out, I'd love to see.

Madness on Sunday Funday

My grandma goes to Canada every year to visit her sisters usually in July or so. Yesterday we went to drop her off at the airport at LAX. Honestly if LAX isn't the worst airport in the country I wouldn't even know what would be. Basically her flight was at 10:00 in the morning and usually you have to be a couple hours ahead to get through security and lines, so we left the house at 7:00. Which meant I had to wake up at 6:00 because it takes me forever to get it together in the morning.

When my alarm went off I felt in shock because I haven't woken up that early since school. So we left and drove about and hour to get to LAX. It was hectic because she was flying American Airlines and that is probably the cheapest airline I'm assuming because it was so crowded. We barely found a place to drop my grandma off and I took her luggage inside and sat her down in the little handi cap area said goodbye (I teared up a little bit no gonna lie) and ran back to the car. It was so crowded the police were making my mom move and I was still inside so she was freaking out and it was a whole situation I can't even put into words the struggle.

   
Here are some pics of the road back home from my house to LAX and back it's alot of deserted and open area. Very pretty in the morning and relaxing. 
 


By this time me and my mom were super hungry and I personally wanted a bagel sandwich from this really good place by our house. Then my mom suggested Krispy Kreme and at first i was reluctant because you all know my healthy lifestyle but then I thought we honestly never get Krispy Kreme because it's too much of a journey to drive to where it is, so I caved.


The guy that was helping us was so cute he was half white and black with blue green eyes I almost passed out. But he did not reciprocate me talking to him at all so I gave up because I looked ragidity as hell and he would not be interested let's be honest here.


 
Inside this Krispy Kreme they had a Coffee Bean which was perfect because I felt like I was going to fall asleep so I got a pure mocha blended. I realized recently that I wish their was more Coffee Beans around because I personally like them more then Starbucks but there isn't as many available.


 
 We decided to get a dozen because we were going to my aunts house and thought we would all eat breakfast together. Starting from the top we got two banana cream (super good), Carrot Cake, Strawberry Eclair, Sugared, Chocolate Sprinkles, NY cheesecake, 2 Boston creme pie donuts (my favorite dessert made into a doughnut was actual heaven), 2 glazed, and one cinnamon bun. There was such a variety it was hard to choose and I was distracted by the cute guy so it was a whole struggle again. Then to finish off our morning we ate them with my aunt and cousin ,they left for San Francisco today so we thought we would said goodbye to them with some breakfast.

Current Favorites!

FAVORITES

Beauty:
 First I have an essence eyeshadow in Party All Night. Recently got this from Ulta love the color it is a perfect dupe for Sidecar from the Naked 1 palette. Also very inexpensive only about $4.00 and a perfect dupe.














Next I've been loving Lancome juicy tubes in simmer. I have never really been a nude lip color person because I'm so pale but this is more along the lines of a nudeish pink. So pretty and perfect for summer.













Food:



My mom got these Snapea Crsips from Costco and they are honestly the most addicting and tasty snack ever. I put myself a little bowl because I could probably eat the whole bag and their needs to be some sort of self control going on. They are a healthier alternative to chips so I've really been enjoying them.












Another healthier alternative is these Outshine fruit bars from Dreyers. They are so refreshing and made with real fruit so it's super delicious and healthy.

This Months Misses:

Like I said I'm trying to eat healthier so my mission is to find healthy alternatives to everything. So I tried this greek frozen yogurt from Oikos and it was the sweetest thing I have ever tasted. It was so sweet my mouth was coated by this weird sweet taste and it was honestly just horrible.











Lastly I have the Elf contouring blush and bronzing powder. I've had this for a while and I kind of rediscovered it this month. I still don't like it the blush and bronzer are both super sparkly which I don't like. When I put the bronzer on I look like an orange so that is never good. All aorund it is a good price for only $3 but really crappy product.

Acai Obsession

I have been absolutely obsessed with acai berries lately I know the trend has been kind of popular for a while and usually I am rather way before people when it comes to a craze or very late. In this case I'm late no surprise.


Acai Berry
In actual berry form they look like this which I would describe as a more purple almost magenta blueberry. I don't believe they actually sell the berries like this but I know I've personally never seen them being sold like this in the supermarket. Usually they are already made and blended or in bars.

In most forms you will find it like this called an acai bowl or sometimes also in smoothie form, this is mine. I get the tropical acai bowl from this local place by me. Essentially it is acai blended with pineapple and mango with granola, banana, strawberry and shaved coconut on the top. It is so refreshing and been a go to for me lately. Most bowls are very filling whenever I get one it is usually for dinner which I like to have a lighter meal and this is perfect and keeps me full till the next morning. I also know they sell acai bars which is just frozen acai that you can blend to make bowls, or smoothies. They sell these bars in Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Costco. It is a good alternative to ice cream, gelto, or fro yo I honestly prefer it, it's ridiculously refreshing and tasty.
 
Heres some fun facts and benefits of acai:
  • Boosts up energy levels (great for during school because lets be honest we all pull all nighters studying)
  • It helps to add luster to skin and nails
  • Acai orginates from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil
  • Also has a lot of iron (awesome for females because during our periods we lose alot of iron from the blood which makes us weaker and not have as much energy)
  • It has been used as weight loss suplement
  • Acai fruit is very low in sugar (alot of fruits are high in sugar such as cantalope so sometimes the harmful effects of sugar weigh out the goodness of the fruit)

High School Survival Guide: What should i eat at lunch?

I don't think I have talked to any high schooler who has good or even semi decent lunches at their school. My school had the greasiest pizza and shady orange chicken, it was honestly the biggest mess. I only ate lunch at school my freshman year when they had these really good and healthy chicken wraps but then they took them away my sophomore year and that was the end of me eating at school.

Sandwiches get boring after a while so i really had to start getting creative. First I would make personal salads add some shredded carrots, croutons and whatever we had in the fridge. I have this salad tupperware that has a little compartment for sauce so i put whichever one i want in their.

Another option I liked a lot too was salsa and chips or guacamole and chips I put them in the same container above. It was honestly so easy I could do it the night before in like 5 minutes.

Also if you don't want to eat too much just something to hold you over till you get home i recommend these little individual trail mix packs from Trader Joes they are filling from the protein in the nuts so it will hold you over till you get home.

My favorite lunch option i came up with during school was do it yourself lunchables. In any container i would put some ritz crackers, little pieces of cut up cheddar cheese, and a couple of slices of turkey or ham. It's really fun to put it together I think and made me feel like I was back in elementary school.

Lastly I liked to make parfaits any cup in my house that had a lid or a mason jar I did a layer of yogurt then fruit and then granola and just kept layering it to the top.

I hope you guys liked these lunch ideas i thought they were a change then the typical sandwich this is what I did my sophomore and junior year. Senior year i was lucky enough to get out at lunch which was the best thing ever if you have the option to I would highly recommend it.

More books!

Whenever I need ideas for new books to read I always go on Google and look for some that a lot of people recommend. I saw a lot of people talk about Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and now I can see why.
This is the cover, I rented mine from the library and finished this 360 page book in 5 days, so it was that good. I haven't liked a book this much and been head over heals for it since Flirting in Italian, I liked other books but none I super loved.

This book is about Anna a girl from Georgia who's dad sends her to an American school in Paris. She makes some friends and in her friend group there is this guy named Etienne St. Clair and everybody calls him by his last name St. Clair he kind of has this bad boy thing going on and Anna is immediately drawn to him but he has a long time girlfriend. Also another girl in their friend group Meredith also has a crush on him so for girl code reasons she can't be with him. But that doesn't really stop them you can tell they are both into each other they go out a lot but Anna gets mad because he always goes back to his girlfriend and she is basically the side chick. You can tell they  have a deep connection because when they go on Christmas break they talk everyday over the phone. A lot of stuff happens, they fight, dance, kiss, and some other interesting stuff I don't want to ruin the surprise.

All in all it really is a great book a lot of drama which I like. Like I've said I like girly books so this was right up my alley in terms of that. I also like foreign romances.

What I Ate Wednesday!



As you guys know I am really trying to live a healthier life style and just all around feel better about myself and how I look and feel in clothes. I started this week and honestly it's going really well I just hope I stay motivated and consistent with it or else their will be no outcome. But today I decided to do What I Ate Wednesday actually on a Wednesday this time, I really enjoy seeing these so I thought I would do one myself.

Breakfast:
I go for a walk every morning and all I crave after is something super refreshing and citrusy. So I went to the farmers market and picked up some grapefruit which were 2 for $1 holla to that deal, I usually have half a grapefruit every morning. I also had it with a hard boiled egg no yolk I personally don't like the way yolks taste when their boiled. I drank a kale smoothie with it which was super refreshing.
 
Lunch:
 
 
I went ahead and made myself a lo mein stir-fry for lunch with a ton of super fresh veggies and a sauce of soy sauce and sriracha. I topped it off with some more sriracha because I love everything extra spicy. It tasted soooo good I will try and do a post about super soon I loved this recipe!
 
Dinner:

I guess I was feeling oriental today, I just realized I had Asian things for lunch and dinner but honestly it was delicious so it doesn't even matter. Anyways for dinner I decided to make a kale and lettuce salad and put these little crispy noodle strips on top. As for dressing I decided to try Annie's Sesame Ginger vinaigrette which was super amazing and tasty I really recommend it. It is a vinaigrette so it has way less calories and fat then a typical salad dressing so it's guilt free which I love.

Baby Lips


During the summer and late in winter my lips always get super dry and flaky because the moisture in the air is all weird so my lips react weird. So during those times I'm always on the hunt for the best lip products to really help my lips out. My all time favorite lips products for dry flaky lips has to be Maybelline's Baby Lips I like them because I feel like their a more high end chapstick but cheaper lipstick which I enjoy and appreciate. The quality and application is great.
These are the three I have and I love them all!

This one is in Pink Punch and this is the only one I have that actually has color which is a darker bubble gum pink.So this one I especially love for when I want extra moisture and some color as well. I featured this in my favorite summer lip products so if you want to see swatches of it go ahead and check that post out!


Next up we have Twinkle which is your basic baby pink chapstick. This has great moisture I usually put it on before I go to bed. It also smells amazing like Fruit Loops or a fruity drink I love it. Comes on sheer

Lastly I have the Baby Lips Dr Rescue in coral crave. I recommend this one if you're having really terrible lip problems, even worse then dryness and flakiness. It works wonders and is really effective for a makeup brand. It smells like Vicks you know the stuff you put one your chest when your sick. I feel like that makes it even more effective. I would have to say this is the glossiest of all of them when I apply it I can tell it makes my lips 10x more glossier. Which some may not like but I don't mind it because it works so great!

This is what they all look like from left to right Pink Punch, Twinkle, and Coral Crave. They are all pinks but have different shades which I really like as well. Pink Punch is your darker but more neon pink. Twinkle is your basic baby pink and Coral Crave is a nice corally pink color.
 
I love all these chapsticks so much I really hope you all get the chance to try them out, I really recommend them!

Recipe: Healthy Tuna Salad

Hey everybody!  First and foremost I wanted to say a very Happy 4th of July to any of my fellow Americans, this really is an amazing day and I hope you all are enjoying yourselves!

For today's post I decided to share with you a healthy tuna salad that I made the other day and it turned out really good. I personally don't even like mayo so I usually do this anyway.

Everything is to taste because everybody is different in regards to if they want their stuff more lemony or more garlic it is all personal preference the ingredients below are just what I did.
 
Ingredients:
< One can of tuna, any of your choice
< 3 tbsp. of lemon
< 2 tbsp. of oil
< 2 tsp of salt and pepper
< 3 tsp of garlic powder
<2 tsp of Trader Joes everyday seasoning
< 3 tsp red pepper flakes
< 1 green onion (chopped)
< 1 1/2 stalks of celery (chopped)
Directions:
< Combine everything in a bowl and mix
< Taste it when your done mixing and add whatever you need more of
< I ate this with some pita bread, but you can honestly do whatever rather by itself or crackers it tastes great either way
 

I cut the celery like this because I like crunchy chunks in my tuna salad

This is the tuna I use and I really like the taste, not an overwhelming fish smell or taste
 
I actually forgot completely to take a picture of the finished product which I'm really sorry about because it looked really good. I'm still getting used to taking pictures of everything, but I really want to try and get better for you all so hopefully next time I actually remember to take a picture of the end product.

Fourth of July day to night outfits and treat!

Hey everybody! So in todays post I'm doing a super awesome post of a day to night outfit for 4th of July and a cool and easy treat as well.
 
 
 
Outfits!
 
First for the outfit on the left which is the day outfit I chose a red and white stripped shirt from Tj maxx some comfy blue shorts from forever 21 and just some white converse. I love this outfit because it's so comfortable to wear shopping or to a picnic anything one might be doing on the 4th.
 
For the night outfit on the right I put together a blue and white stripped skater dress from H&M with some white studded sandals from Steve Madden. I also took a clip and did my hair half up and half down. You can't tell but I also have on a red lip just to finish off the outfit!

Treat time!
 It honestly took me forever to decide what I wanted to make because I wanted it to be cute but at least semi healthy! So I decided to make a fizzy cranberry juice with a red and white mini skewer
Ingredients:
 
For drink
< 1/2 cup of cranberry juice
< 1/2 cup of sprite or ginger ale
 
Per mini skewer
< 1 medium strawberry
< 6 mini marshmallows
 
Directions:
1. You want to go ahead and fill half of whatever cup you want to use with cranberry juice and the other half with sprite! That is all for the drink super delicious.
2. For the skewer I just broke one long skewer in half and pushed three mini marshmallows to the end of one side then put my sliced strawberries in the middle and then the other three marshmallows on the other side!
3. You will want to stick the skewer on top of the cup so everyone can drink and then take a little bite!
I came up with this decoration piece, which is just a Styrofoam ring from the dollar store, which I painted red and blue then just stuck some stickers all over, which I think makes it look even better. Another treat option would be to make a bunch of the mini skewers and stick them in the Styrofoam vertically, it would look really cool and everyone would love picking one!  
I also just had this white and red straw in my house but whatever you have is fine as well
